The flesh is already laid open, forming a genuine passage towards an inner core. The body becomes the material manifestation of an emotional spectrum: rendered from within outwards, it refuses the constraints of idealisation and stasis. The viscera rise to the surface because that is where they belong; because the skin has always been nothing more than a provisional membrane. These figures embody a discomfort shared by all, stretched into permanence upon the canvas: at once an embrace and a black hole. They offer a representation of the tangled mass that each of us carries beneath the epidermis.

We have reached the end of another year, and Nasty Magazine returns with a customary compilation selected by our Art Editor, Maria Abramenko, of unmissable exhibitions of 2025. A collection of projects, initiatives, and cultural acts that too often went unnoticed because they disturb, because they refuse to bow to the logic of the ordinary.

During the Paris photo week, With the support of Art Icon, a non-profit cultural organisation, the curators collected Pieces of some of the prominent names in the world of photograph such as Roger Ballen, Lars von Trier, Nadya Tolokonnikova / Pussy Riot, Santiago Sierra, Lydia Lunch, Tali Lennox. The result was a socially engaged exhibition, reflecting on the relationship between ideology, society, sexuality, and politics.
