Known for creating eclectic, sharp clothes, the Italian industry’s cult designer, Ennio Capasa is back at the center of the fashion world with his new project Capasa Milano. Backstage report from it’s first show “Before it starts” on 02.02.2022 during Milan Fashion Week photographed by Dragana Kunjadic Capasa.
Six years after stepping away from the industry, during which he focused on drawing and sculpting, he now returns with a fresh vision. Described as a unique, enigmatic creator with a clear sense of elegance and always committed to high standards, he emerged as one of the great, idiosyncratic talents of the late 90s with his brand Costume National. The Italian designer emphasises through his recent work the importance of sustainability and promotes high-quality methods of production. What sets him apart from other designers is the deep understanding of technology and couture as two complementary terms. In his latest collection (he chose the evening of 02.22.2022 to show) Ennio Capasa underscored the sense of freedom. He created a fluid and diverse universe of shapes, colors and preferences by building an authentic “persona” for each model. By observing his creations, the viewer can take part in a storyline and meet interesting characters with hidden stories and puzzling personalities. Powerful shoulders, strong colourful details, bold cuts, casual elegance and some nostalgia from the ’80s are combined to compose a promising collection. The standards are high as always for Ennio! Welcome back, you have been missed.
“Today’s creativity is a sort of social phenomenon, a lingua franca shared by millions of people. There’s a much more free creative humus which I find incredibly inspiring. And the discourse on gender, diversity and ethical responsibility is extremely engaging, and it’s about values which have always been part of my ethos.”
“Here there’s no order, we’re just trying to find visual balance and harmony, everything is mixed up freely. It’s rather liberating.”
