Tell us a bit about you, your background. What made you start your brand?
To be honest I haven’t a specific background in fashion, I started my career in law but after a bit I understood that it not was the right way because my passion was totally focused on fashion so I decided to follow this passion. Thanks to the first people who helped me get started working in the fashion industry, I focused on the accessories sector and become a production consultant for luxury accessories made in Italy. I love to work on the product especially for catwalk shows or editorial production. During this journey I decided it was time to have my own brand, my group, my vision, so Mikyri was born.
What is the story behind the name Mikyri?
Mikyri is an ancient Japanese world that means to look, to strike. Every single product is totally handmade and made in Italy but the team behind Mikyri has a passion for oriental philosophy and style of life so this prompted us to get inspired and research on other side of the word.
What about your design process, how do you start working on a collection?
Our key word is contamination. Contamination from the past, contemporary needs and from the constant research of new designs and materials. We have a group of people that work together and try to bring personal and external contamination into a specific mood.
How important is craftmanship and the “Made in Italy” tradition for your brand?
Mikyri is totally handmade and made in Italy… so for us the process how to do the products is our principal mission. First of all, we are here to do things with really good quality.
What/who inspires you and moves you deeply?
I take my inspiration from everything and try to do the best every single day and go beyond my limits. The constant desire to grow is my best motivation.
What would you like to bring into the fashion industry or take from it?
More attention to young talents and startups. High fashion system is a really close world.
What do you think are the biggest obstacles a fashion designer has to overcome in his journey to success?
Oh it is not easy to answer, everyone has their obstacles and in the personal life depends from the starting point of each of us. Passion, strategy, knowledge and luck are always good things to arrive at personal goals.
