From Ruins to Sound / Road to PhillGood Festival

The Cure, Gorillaz, and Moby headline Bulgaria’s new three-day festival in Plovdiv.

This July, Bulgaria firmly establishes itself on the global festival scene. From July 17 to 19, 2026, PhillGood transforms Plovdiv’s Rowing Canal into a three-stage venue where post-punk legends, virtual bands, electronic trailblazers, and leftfield disruptors gather. Headlined by The Cure, Gorillaz, and Moby, the inaugural edition signifies more than just a new event. It positions Plovdiv as the next major cultural hub.

One of Europe’s oldest cities, shaped by Roman ruins, Ottoman layers, and a growing contemporary arts scene, it carries history in its architecture and pace. PhillGood places itself within that context. The Rowing Canal, framed by the city’s seven hills, becomes the setting for three evenings running from 19:00 to 01:30, where global headliners meet a new generation of audiences.

Opening night, July 17, features The Cure, marking their debut in Bulgaria. The lineup spans eras and styles, with Wolf Alice, Just Mustard, Perturbator, and The Subways creating a mood that shifts between introspective rock and electronic intensity. The next evening, Gorillaz bring their layered universe of sound and visuals, joined by Kneecap, Sleaford Mods, Los Bitchos, and Suede. The final night ends with Moby, whose influence on electronic music remains fundamental, along with Son Lux and Thievery Corporation, showcasing the festival’s diversity across decades and genres.

Day 1:  July 17

On the PHILLGOOD Main Stage, The Cure make their long-awaited Bulgarian debut. Their headline set anchors a program that also features Wolf Alice, delivering their dynamic alternative-rock sound, and British indie mainstays The Subways. Irish dream-rock band Just Mustard adds atmospheric intensity, while French electronic producer Perturbator closes the stylistic gap between guitar-driven music and darker synth-led textures.

Simultaneously, the debut of the dedicated electronic space PHILLRAVE introduces a different pulse to the festival. The opening night brings together Acid Arab, Daniel Avery, and Erol Alkan, joined by Ison, establishing a program centered on techno, acid, and contemporary club culture.

The third stage, PHILLCOOL, focuses on alternative and regional voices. A rare performance by Bulgarian pioneers KLAS, celebrating four decades on the national music scene, anchors the stage’s opening direction, alongside contemporary local artists contributing to Bulgaria’s evolving independent landscape.

Day 2:  July 18

The second day widens the scope.

On the Main Stage, Gorillaz headline with their hybrid live show combining music, visuals, and narrative design. Supporting acts reflect the festival’s emphasis on genre crossover: Belfast hip-hop trio Kneecap, electro-punk duo Sleaford Mods, and instrumental surf-exotica group Los Bitchos.

At PHILLRAVE, the focus shifts toward forward-facing electronic sounds. Sofia Kourtesis and HAAi bring global club energy, joined by Bulgarian electronic figure KiNK and Raredub, reinforcing the festival’s commitment to both international and domestic electronic talent.

Meanwhile, PHILLCOOL continues to foreground contemporary Bulgarian and regional artists, including Bulgarian Cartrader, Zhluch & Gena, Jin Monic, Lunikk, and Hug or Handshake, offering a curated snapshot of the country’s independent scene.

Day 3:  July 19

The final day balances legacy and experimentation.

On the PHILLGOOD Main Stage, Moby closes the festival with a career-spanning set shaped by decades of influence in electronic music. The program also features Suede, Einstürzende Neubauten, Thievery Corporation, and Apashe & The Brass Orchestra, culminating in a final evening that blends alternative rock, experimental sound, and orchestral-infused electronic performance. Son Lux contributes their cinematic blend of electronics and post-rock textures.

At PHILLRAVE, the closing night lineup includes Kelly Lee Owens, Pretty Girl, Swimming Paul, and Liubo Ursiny, delivering immersive, dance-focused sets that extend the festival atmosphere into its final hours.

The PHILLCOOL stage maintains its commitment to cult and independent programming, ensuring the closing night reflects the same diversity established at the outset.

Moby

Across three evenings and three stages, PhillGood brings together legacy acts, contemporary innovators, and emerging voices within a single, clearly structured framework. Plovdiv’s Rowing Canal is set to become one of summer 2026’s most visible new festival destinations.
