Her music is more than a genre—it’s an experience, a fusion of tech-house, indie dance, Italo disco, and acid that seduces both body and mind. Now, with a game-changing debut album, an avant-garde party concept, and a residency at one of the world’s most exclusive eco-retreats, Bluma is redefining what it means to be an artist in today’s electronic music landscape. In this exclusive interview, she speaks on identity, evolution, and the fearless pursuit of creative freedom.
From the sunlit dance floors of Ibiza to the global stage, how has your journey shaped the artist you are today? Were there pivotal moments that defined your sound or vision?
Oh, my journey as an artist has been like a delicious cocktail—shaken, not stirred! From my early days spinning records in the heart of Algiers to electrifying crowds in the hottest clubs worldwide, every moment has been a vibrant note in my symphony. The most significant? That first time the bass dropped, and the crowd erupted like a volcano! It was pure magic, and I knew I was hooked. Each gig has added a sprinkle of glitter to my soul, and I can’t wait to see what the next beat brings!
Your Algerian heritage and your experiences in places like Ibiza, Berlin, and Rome create a rich tapestry of influences. How do your roots and travels inform your music? Do you see your identity as a bridge between different cultures within the electronic music scene?
Oh, absolutely! My Algerian roots are the spice in my musical recipe. They dance through my beats and whisper stories of resilience and beauty. I mean, how could I not let my culture shine? It’s like a love letter to my homeland! And while I embrace my diverse experiences, I can’t help but throw a cheeky wink to the world, hoping for a brighter tomorrow for my people and our Islamic culture. We’re a vibrant tapestry, and I’m just one thread weaving my story!
Transitioning from DJing to music production can be daunting. How did you approach this shift, and what did you want to communicate with your debut album, Teenage Dream? How does nostalgia for the ’90s play a role in your creative process?
The transition was like falling in love for the first time—exciting and a bit nerve-wracking! I wanted to create something deeper, to craft soundscapes that would make hearts race and bodies move. “Teenage Dream” was my love letter to those wild nights and sweet memories. It’s a blend of nostalgia and euphoria, a celebration of youth and freedom. Every track is a little piece of my heart, wrapped in beats and melodies that I hope will make you dance like nobody’s watching!
