Solomun at Sphere Las Vegas

About our trip and the exclusive reportage covering the live performance on February 27, 2025.

Find yourself in a place where everything is running faster than your thoughts, right at the center of the pounding heart of a dystopian city. Solomun put up a one-hour long immersive sound and visual experience at the world’s largest immersive entertainment venue: a highly anticipated one-off show rich of deep and melodic sound, analog references and some techno vibes that could come straight out of a shadowy club in Berlin.

On February 27, 2025, we had the privilege of being invited by Solomun to witness his performance in Las Vegas, where he joined his friend Anyma for one of the final acts of the inaugural electronic residency at The Sphere—a mesmerizing “visual dome” the size of a sports arena. Solomun brought his own vision to this ultra-modern, futuristic setting, introducing surprisingly fitting vintage and retro-futuristic elements that reflected his cultural background and professional experience.

In fact for this special event, he drew from his vast background in the cinema industry, which is evident in every aspect of the show, entirely directed and created by him—from sound, to visuals, to choreography (featuring Blanca Li, also known for her work with Daft Punk).

The visual story evolves through the alternance of scenes with two antipodal characters (sun/moon, male/female, both very well styled for a proper Berghain wild night), different from each other but dancing relentlessly to the same beat that united us all. Then we transition to another scenery, and probably my personal highlight: a fast descent into the realm of the shadows and highlights of a parallel dimension made of wires, neon lights and “claustrophobic” distances traversed at the speed of light.

While bright primary colors led the storytelling, for the ending part Solomun stripped away all extraneous elements to focus on the essence of a monochromatic composition—a shifting, anthropomorphic flow that dissolves seamlessly, paving the way for the show’s conclusion: a portal of infinite light opening onto the crowd, illuminating everything around us.

This aspect of my biography—my passion for storytelling through moving images—might come as a surprise to some. Since at my events, I’ve always kept the focus strictly on music rather than visuals. That’s why I always say: I throw parties, not shows. But here, on this massive screen, it had to be a show—one that tells the story of the divine power of music and the universal language of dance.

But Solomun is of course a DJ—so why am I talking a lot about the visuals? Because at a venue like The Sphere, sound and sight are inseparable. Featuring the world’s largest LED screen, the venue creates a 360-degree visual experience in stunning high resolution, complemented by a cutting-edge sound system, able to offer the ultimate 4D immersive experience.

This is something I truly encourage everyone to experience if given the chance, and at this level of excellence, feels like a glimpse into the possible future of the dance industry, one that also our Old Continent should definitely consider.

In conclusion, Solomun had the coherence and the audacity to bring to Vegas his uncompromising vision and to do what he does best, preparing a setlist melodic yet deep, adding a nice “harder” twist in both music and visuals. This unique show marks a milestone, firmly placing him in the niche of artists who are capable not only of creating great music but also of building entire worlds around it.
