First opened in 1932 as the Hotel Alcron, this storied establishment was the brainchild of Czech entrepreneur and architect Alois Krofta. Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, Krofta cleverly adapted the name of a mythological ship to reflect his own initials, embedding a personal touch into the hotel’s identity. Situated near Prague’s bustling Wenceslas Square, the hotel quickly became synonymous with luxury, welcoming guests like Charlie Chaplin and Ella Fitzgerald.

Now reimagined as the Almanac X Alcron Prague, the hotel blends its storied past with contemporary flair. It is the first property in the Almanac X lifestyle collection, a sub-brand of Almanac Hotels focused on youthful, culinary-driven hospitality. The redesign, crafted by Marani Architects, Barcelona’s Tres Cinco Uno Creative Studio, and architect Tina Haselbacher, pays tribute to the hotel’s origins while infusing it with modern elements.

Key heritage features, like the Carrara marble staircase with brass railings, original marble floors, and the onyx fireplace, are preserved, while the interiors are reinterpreted with a minimalist approach. The colors chosen for the lobby, inspired by Prague’s historic facades and rooftops, include emerald, gold, and terracotta. Throughout the hotel, a curated collection of art from local talents like Lucie Jindrak Skrivankova, Alzbeta Josefy, and Patrik Krissak adds a contemporary touch, making the Almanac X Alcron Prague a seamless blend of history, art, and modern design.

Paying homage to its origins, the hotel’s refreshed aesthetic preserves its Art Deco elegance while embracing modern minimalism. Krofta’s original design, inspired by Bauhaus principles, the glamour of the Art Deco era, and the opulence of Gilded Age ocean liners, remains a cornerstone of the space.

While the hotel’s public spaces exude retro elegance, the rooms present a fresh, contemporary style. Featuring hardwood floors, wainscot paneling, designer furnishings, and artwork from emerging local talents, the rooms create an inviting atmosphere. The spacious bathrooms highlight the natural beauty of Czech limestone, while glass pendant lighting adds a nod to traditional craftsmanship. The hotel offers 204 rooms, including 26 suites, with standouts like the Almanac Castle View Suite and the Presidential Suite, both offering sweeping views of Prague Castle and the National Museu

The Alcron Hotel has a culinary heritage dating back to the early 1930s, quickly becoming  synonymous with high-end Czech cuisine. Celebrated for its vintage ambiance and innovative  menus, the restaurant, located on the ground floor, offers an informal yet elegant setting  enhanced by its historical charm and crystal chandeliers. Now part of the Almanac X collection,  which places a central focus on culinary experiences, the Alcron’s recent evolution under head  chef Richard Bielik centres on blending fresh, contemporary flavours with local tradition, serving a  primarily plant-based menu that highlights often-overlooked Czech and Central European  ingredients. The dishes are perfectly complemented by regional wines and local craft beer. If you  seek private dining wether it is for a business meeting or a more intimate dinner setting, the hotel  offers a private dining area seating up to 20 people besides the stunning onyx fireplace.  

At the Alcron Bar, one of Prague’s trendiest spots, you can enjoy handcrafted cocktails in a  modern Art Deco-inspired ambiance. This intimate bar stirs up a selection of Czech and  international cocktails, utilising innovative techniques like rotavapor and sous vide to discover  bold flavours.

Something to look forward to is the inauguration of the hotel’s panoramic rooftop, opening soon next year. With breathtaking views of the Prague Castle, the National Museum and the city’s multiple churches and rooftops, the Alcron terrace will surely be the place to be to enjoy a cocktail while enjoying Prague’s eclectic skyline.

Another gem of the Alcron X Almanac is the street side coffee shop. Just a few steps away from  Wenceslas Square, the Elias Coffee Shop is a delightful street-side café perfect to enjoy a freshly  roasted fair-trade coffee or a healthy snack, whether you’re staying at the hotel or exploring the  city. This specialty coffee shop features a menu centered on plant-rich cuisine and locally sourced  ingredients. With five guiding principles—think, energize, defend, recover, and chill—the Elias Coffee Shop offers a thoughtful selection of beverages and dishes designed to nourish and invigorate.

The Alcron X Almanac proudly embraces its rich heritage while inviting visitors to discover the  city’s vibrant spirit. The hotel curates an array of exclusive tours, such as a guided walking tour  through the city’s architectural landmarks, showcasing its eclectic styles—from the intricate  Gothic spires to the opulent Baroque facades, and the innovative Modernist and Cubist  masterpieces that pepper the landscape. Guests can also wander through the artsy neighborhoodss of Holešovice and Karlín, where the streets pulse with creativity, offering a mix of  trendy bistros, modern galleries, and artist studios that breathe life into the city’s artistic soul. Additionally, the hotel’s website features an events finder, which lets you know in advance of any  interesting cultural or gastronomic events that may be taking place at the Almanac during your  stay. Furthermore, the hotel showcases the talents of local artisans in its concept store, presenting a thoughtfully curated collection of treasures to “take home something special.” From unique clothing and jewelry to home accessories, ceramics and glassware, each piece  encapsulates the artistic and multifaceted essence of Prague.
