First opened in 1932 as the Hotel Alcron, this storied establishment was the brainchild of Czech entrepreneur and architect Alois Krofta. Drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, Krofta cleverly adapted the name of a mythological ship to reflect his own initials, embedding a personal touch into the hotel’s identity. Situated near Prague’s bustling Wenceslas Square, the hotel quickly became synonymous with luxury, welcoming guests like Charlie Chaplin and Ella Fitzgerald.
Now reimagined as the Almanac X Alcron Prague, the hotel blends its storied past with contemporary flair. It is the first property in the Almanac X lifestyle collection, a sub-brand of Almanac Hotels focused on youthful, culinary-driven hospitality. The redesign, crafted by Marani Architects, Barcelona’s Tres Cinco Uno Creative Studio, and architect Tina Haselbacher, pays tribute to the hotel’s origins while infusing it with modern elements.
Key heritage features, like the Carrara marble staircase with brass railings, original marble floors, and the onyx fireplace, are preserved, while the interiors are reinterpreted with a minimalist approach. The colors chosen for the lobby, inspired by Prague’s historic facades and rooftops, include emerald, gold, and terracotta. Throughout the hotel, a curated collection of art from local talents like Lucie Jindrak Skrivankova, Alzbeta Josefy, and Patrik Krissak adds a contemporary touch, making the Almanac X Alcron Prague a seamless blend of history, art, and modern design.
