Electric sunset

Impressions from M’era Luna 2023 Festival.

Another glorious edition of the darkest festival of Europe has passed leaving us already longing for next year.

Since decades a dark crowd of about 25.000 music lovers unites in the middle of Summer at the former airport of Hildesheim, a town in Lower Saxony, Germany. Even on this very unpredictable summer weather, the sun graced M’era Luna for an intense weekend of music starting just after noon, meetings, goth fashion events and the most colorful and flamboyant attendants. This year has been a total blast especially for any electrohead with 2 days packed with some the best bands from synth-pop to harsh ebm, with noteworthy performances by Solar Fake -playing under the most amazing sunset-, the melodies of the dark club anthems by Frozen Plasma, De/Vision and Mesh, and last but not least the rage of the everlasting Agonoize and Hocico, who let us dance our last energies away on Sunday. And of course we are happy to mention the great come back of Ville Valo, legendary frontman of HIM, who headlined on Saturday and proposed a convincing mix of the hits of the past and the new tracks of his personal project VV.

Here follows a gallery of impressions from M’era Luna and portraits of some of the beautiful people that we met on our way.

Big names and more rare gems are already announced for the next edition, like our old-school EBM super favorites Front 242, Die Krupps and Funker Vogt as well as ASP, Suicide Commando, Oomph!, Welle:Erdball and many more will be coming in the next months. So don’t miss your tickets and see you again next year!

Next edition: 10-11 August 2024 / Hildesheim, Germany.

In the ambient and experimental music world, collaboration often transcends physical proximity. This is certainly true for Abul Mogard and Rafael Anton Irisarri, two artists known for sculpting sonic environments that are both vast and intimately detailed. Their joint album, Impossibly Distant, Impossibly Close, explores the dynamic interplay between remoteness and closeness, both thematically and sonically.
