Perfect Imperfection
A curious evolution of pristine tailoring cut from uncommon materials. A three-dimensional banana imprinted in the mind, for its shape so perfectly imperfect, would easily be mistaken for real fruit if not for its monochromatic white or black glaze.
German born, New York based; her name is Melitta Baumeister. The designer’s play with reproportioning classical garments received great critical acclaim on the VFiles runway at New York Fashion Week. From the user generated fashion show to the hands of Mel Ottenberg who styled the notoriously dressed Rihanna at the shows in Paris, layers of neoprene and vinyl marked Baumeister’s widely spreading territory.
Volumes envelop the body creating space between skin and silhouette. Textures evolve from matte to gloss finishes. In an absence of color, shapes become pure and organic. A contract of conventional grace is erased.
